LA Tech Week 2026: The Founder's Guide
LA Tech Week 2026 runs October 12-18, the last a16z Tech Week of the year. The official Luma calendar is still empty. We have run 80 pitch nights in Los Angeles, so here is how the week works, where it clusters, and which hosts reliably show up.
Last updated September 3, 2026. LA Tech Week is a decentralized conference presented by a16z: no central venue, no wristband, and roughly a thousand independent events across the city, nearly all of them free. The official 2026 calendar at luma.com/latw still has zero published events as of September 3, but the drop date is finally announced: the calendar goes live September 8.
Three things decide your week, and they are the order of this guide: the per-event approval model, the fact that the whole thing clusters on the Westside, and knowing which hosts return. We write it from the organizer's chair, not the press box: 80 nights and 3,000+ attendees in Los Angeles.
How LA Tech Week 2026 actually works
LA Tech Week has no central venue, no wristband, and no single ticket. It is roughly a thousand independent events across the city, nearly all of them free, each with its own host. You browse the official calendar at luma.com/latw, apply to each event separately, and each host approves you individually. As of September 3, 2026 that calendar is still empty, and a16z has now dated the drop: it goes live September 8, and you can leave your email at tech-week.com/calendar to get it that day.
The per-event approval model is the single most important mechanic to internalize. The official wording: once the calendar launches you browse events and apply to attend, and individual hosts will be in touch about your registration status. In practice that means apply early, apply to more than you'll attend, and expect some silence. In 2025, registration ran through Luma and sometimes Partiful, and while nearly every event was free, a meaningful minority were invite-only: a16z's own American Dynamism reception, several VC dinners. The invite-only layer is where a lot of the real deal conversation happens, and the way in is being specific about your sector to hosts who care about it, not mass-applying.
The day has a repeatable shape, verified against the 2025 listings: run clubs, cold plunges and yoga at 7-8am, investor breakfasts from 8:30-10:30, panels and coworking through midday, then a 4-7pm happy-hour wall, invite-only dinners from 6pm, and parties from 7:30pm. Plan around it: mornings are where the investors are caffeinated and reachable, the happy-hour wall is where you'll burn energy for the least return if you try to do all of it.
One more planning note. Single-day density is real: dot.LA's lineup for the 2025 Tuesday alone named 100+ events across roughly 25 neighborhoods, in one day. You cannot attend the week. You can attend a well-chosen slice of it, which is what the next section is for.

The geography: LA Tech Week is Westside-weighted
LA Tech Week clusters hard on the Westside. At the 2025 edition Santa Monica was by far the largest concentration, Venice second, then Culver City and Playa Vista; those four sit within about a six-mile band. DTLA hosted a real but smaller cluster, and El Segundo, Inglewood, Pasadena and South LA were outposts with real drive time attached. Plan each day inside one cluster and you will actually make your events.
No other guide states this plainly, and it is the difference between a productive week and a week spent on the 10. Here is where things actually happened in 2025, cluster by cluster:
Santa Monica
By far the largest cluster at the 2025 edition: investor breakfasts, Snapchat and LinkedIn corporate sessions, PitchLive.LA, an a16z x Fenwick crypto fireside, and dozens of happy hours. If you only book one hotel neighborhood, this is it.
Venice
The early-stage VC neighborhood in 2025: Day One Partners coworking, Hustle Fund office hours and founder dinner, Riot Ventures and Space VC's "Caffeine and Critical Industries," the LAVA CPG Expo, and Shopify's after-party at The Lighthouse.
Culver City
Corporate and deep-tech territory: an AWS/Seed AI national-security AI panel, Techstars' office events with USSF and NASA JPL in attendance, a Startup Grind LA launch, and AWS programming at Amazon Studios including a Gen AI film showcase.
Playa Vista
Fewer events, bigger ones: Mucker Capital's founder sessions, the invite-only a16z American Dynamism reception, the hardest ticket of the week, and the sold-out AI LAX Summit at Google's Playa Vista campus.
El Segundo
The hardware-and-defense outpost. In 2025: LAVA sports-tech speed networking, a Topgolf growth-marketing social, and an AI-investment workshop. Worth the drive if you build physical things; skippable otherwise.
DTLA and the outposts
DTLA's 2025 cluster ran rooftop mixers at The Delphi Hotel plus workforce and LGBTQ+ founder events. Further out: a city-backed four-event Pasadena series with Innovate Pasadena, USC ISI's AI lab tours in Marina del Rey, Slauson & Co. in South LA, and investor networking inside the Intuit Dome in Inglewood. Each is a deliberate trip, not a walk between sessions.
The anchors: hosts who showed up in 2025 and tend to return
Three entries below have a confirmed 2026 date: the AI LAX Summit on Oct 18, PitchLive.LA on Oct 13, and our own night on Oct 7. Everything else is the set of events and hosts that anchored the 2025 edition: a16z's own receptions, LAVA's kickoff breakfast, Techstars' Culver City track, and the rest. Where a detail comes from 2025, treat it as who to search for when the calendar goes live on September 8, not as a 2026 date.
The only registration surface that matters, and it now has a launch date: September 8. Follow it today, check it from the 8th, and apply early once it fills. Hosts approve applicants individually, so fill in your Luma profile with your company and role before you start applying.
The week's marquee open pitch competition, and now confirmed for 2026: October 13, with four named LA seed-fund judges and a September 18 application deadline for pre-seed and seed founders building AI-native products. The venue is not stated yet. If you want to pitch during Tech Week itself rather than just network, apply before the 18th.
Run with AI LA, and the closest thing the week has to a centerpiece AI conference. Its own site now carries an October 18, 2026 date at Google's Playa Vista campus, the closing day of Tech Week, which makes it one of three entries here you can already put on a calendar. It completely sold out in 2025, so register the day tickets appear rather than the week of.
The LA Venture Association's annual kickoff. The "4th Annual" branding makes it one of the few events on this list with a real track record of returning every year. A 2026 edition is not announced: lava.org showed nothing when we checked on September 3, and past editions were posted on Luma, so expect it to surface after the calendar drop rather than on their own site.
The hardest ticket of the 2025 week, co-hosted with Apex. Being credibly in aerospace, defense or manufacturing is the way in. If that's you, start warming the intro now, not in October.
Techstars' Culver City track
A full mini-track out of Techstars' Culver City office, with Space Force and JPL people actually in attendance at the aerospace evening. Registration ran on Partiful, a reminder that not everything lives on the Luma calendar.
At least four hands-on sessions on the 2025 Tuesday alone. Tactical content instead of mixer content, which makes them the best default way to fill daytime blocks between the breakfast and the happy-hour wall.
Open office hours and a founder dinner in the same day. Rare face time with a fund that actually takes cold meetings; the office-hours slots are the highest-leverage 20 minutes a pre-seed founder can book all week.
The Cerebral Valley crowd's LA outpost, and the one evening where SF AI people and LA people genuinely mix. With SF Tech Week ending the day before LA opens, expect the crossover crowd to be real again in 2026.
Slauson & Co.'s morning gathering anchors the week's South LA presence, the deliberate counterweight to all that Westside density. One of the mornings most worth leaving your cluster for.
VC Hoops Investor Tip-Off
Only-in-LA format: investor networking inside the Intuit Dome during live basketball. Low pitch density, high memorability.
A long-running LA tech community doing literal beach networking. The most LA event on the calendar and a smart decompression slot between the panels and the parties.

How much does LA Tech Week cost?
There is nothing to buy. Nearly every event in the 2025 lineups was free; the scarce resource is host approval and your calendar, not money. A meaningful minority of events, mostly VC dinners and a16z's own receptions, were invite-only.
Through the official Luma calendar once it launches: browse events, apply to each one, and hosts respond individually. Some 2025 hosts (Techstars among them) used Partiful links instead, so follow the hosts you care about directly too.
Is there a central venue?
No. The "conference" is the sum of independent events across the city, which is why the neighborhood clusters above matter more than any venue name.
Can I pitch at LA Tech Week?
Yes, if you plan it. PitchLive.LA is confirmed for October 13 with four LA seed funds judging, and founder applications close September 18. And if you want stage time with investor Q&A before the week even starts, apply to pitch at our October 7 night in DTLA.
When does the 2026 calendar go live?
September 8. The official calendar page now carries the date and takes your email to send the calendar the day it drops. The LA page still had zero published events when we checked on September 3, and host submissions moved to a dedicated portal at hosts.tech-week.com. We'll refresh this guide once the calendar fills.
Plan the week like an organizer
The founders who get the most out of LA Tech Week treat it like a campaign, not a festival: pick one neighborhood cluster per day, anchor each day on one morning event and one evening event, apply early because hosts approve individually, and arrive with your pitch already tight. The week rewards preparation precisely because a thousand free events reward nobody by default.
