Buying a car from a stranger, made as safe as a dealer

San FranciscoIndustrialLive product

PITCHING AT THE SAN FRANCISCO NIGHT ON 16 SEPTEMBER 2026

Most car buyers need a loan, and a private seller cannot offer one, so financed buyers get funnelled back to a dealer who marks the car up. Zoooom is the infrastructure that makes a private sale work: identity checks, AI vehicle verification, condition reports and an inspection network, with escrowed payment and financing behind them.

The private-party car market is enormous and runs on cash, a bank parking lot and trust between strangers. The reason it stays that way is financing: four out of five buyers need a loan, no private seller can originate one, and so the buyer goes back to a dealer who captures them with a markup. The seller loses the margin, the buyer pays it, and neither of them wanted the dealer in the middle.

Zoooom is building the pieces that a dealership provides, one at a time, for people who do not have one. Identity verification, AI-assisted vehicle verification and inspection, and VIN-level condition reports are shipped and running today. Escrowed settlement follows the instant-payment rails, and financing after that. The company is unusually direct about which parts are live and which are not, which is the right instinct in a market built on trust.
